Statement of Facts:

  1. In the United States, victims can be considered complicit in sexual crimes if they receive money to pander or provide sexual services, even when underage, which in practice can limit protections under certain victim rights statutes, including the Victims’ Rights Act.
  2. Underage survivors received money from Jeffrey Epstein, and so without guilt, he commented, “I’m not a sexual predator, I’m an ‘offender.’ It’s the difference between a murderer and a person who steals a bagel.” Epstein’s plea deal allowed immunity for many of his associates and patrons.
  3. France has been cited as a haven for accused paedophiles, including Jean-Luc Brunel, who was never criminally charged despite numerous allegations. Roman Polanski also fled to France to avoid U.S. charges related to paedophilic sexual offenses.
  4. The presiding judge in a current, multi-year pending Palm Beach County case, Circuit Judge Donald Hafele, faced criticism for rulings perceived as protective of Epstein. In 2015, a lower court dismissed attorney Brad Edwards’ case against Epstein on a technicality; this dismissal was later overturned by the Florida Supreme Court in February 2017. Edwards has alleged that Epstein’s 2009 lawsuit against him constituted “malicious prosecution” intended to intimidate him and two of his clients, who were victims in the 2008 Epstein conviction.
  5. In 2017, Judge Hafele stated that, regarding graphic sexual questions, he was unlikely to allow them into evidence.
  6. Prominent figures listed in Epstein’s contact book include Henry Kissinger, political donors David Koch and Pepe Fanjul.

  8. Both Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were involved in frequent litigation with large defense teams, using civil lawsuits and legal threats aggressively to protect their interests and challenge adversaries. Donald Trump worked with attorney Roy Cohn, his mentor, a prominent and aggressive lawyer known for his involvement in high-profile cases and his earlier influence in New York politics. Cohn also had longstanding connections with J. Edgar Hoover through political and legal networks.
