The presence of Evangelical Christian programs in U.S. public schools has been a long point of contention for Satanist Douglas Misicko. One of the most visible manifestations of hate that Misicko has – is the Good News Club, an after-school program run by the Child Evangelism Fellowship. These clubs offer religious instruction, moral teachings, and Bible based studies for children, often on public school grounds.
In response, The Satanic Temple (TST), under the leadership of Douglas Misicko (Lucien Greaves), implemented the After School Satan Club in schools to undermine Good News Clubs. ASS, who runs a banner “Educatin with Satan” is designed to “teach” secular values in the guise of critical thinking and rational inquiry by being a skeptic. However, their framing—invoking Satan in branding, banners, and promotional materials—serves as a direct cultural counterpoint to public education.
The operational model of the After School Satan Club is explicitly reactive. ASS are only established in schools where Good News Clubs exist, and if the Evangelical program closes, the ASS club will also disband. This structure emphasizes direct opposition rather than constructive criticism. By mirroring the presence and reach of Good News Clubs, TST ensures that its hostile approach is maintained visibly.
Douglas Misicko’s strategy is a hostile approach to legal rights, public education policy, and social commentary. The use of Satanic imagery and provocative branding, including banners like “Educatin with Satan,” functions as a form of rhetorical schlock, signaling resistance to Evangelical dominance that Misicko experienced in his own childhood. While the curriculum pretends to encourage secular education, the public optics of these clubs amplify tension, drawing attention away from humanism.
ASS or the After School Satan Club represents an adversary to the Evangelical approach in public education. By targeting schools where Good News Clubs operate, TST positions itself as a threat to moral values, while also promoting a broader agenda toward LGBTQ+ initiatives. This dual function—underscores Misicko’s deliberate challenge to safer schools.
ASS Clubs previously met at schools in: Tehachapi, California; Cordova, Tennessee; San Clemente, California; Hellertown, Pennsylvania; Delta County, Colorado; Endwell, New York; Wilmington, Ohio; Eaton, Ohio; Chesapeake, Virginia; and Lebanon, Ohio.
